Synopsis

An insatiable seducer, Don Giovanni pursues one conquest after another without ever considering the consequences. When he attempts to seduce Donna Anna, a young noblewoman, her father, the Commander, steps in to defend her, but Don Giovanni kills him in a duel. He then continues his reckless flight forward, dragging along Donna Elvira, a former conquest trying to bring him to his senses, and Zerlina, a young peasant girl he in turn tries to seduce. But the Commander's ghost will return to haunt him and bring about his downfall…

Who is Don Juan? An eternal question, as this character, seen through the ages as a "great wicked lord," a seductive charmer, or a toxic predator, resists any definitive label. From its breathtaking overture to the fatal dinner with the Commander, this dramma giocoso, a subtle blend of comedy and drama, leaves no one unmoved. Director Louisa Proske, making her debut at the Paris Opera, sets the action in a grand hotel, a setting able to transgress social structures and reveal the characters' deepest hidden fantasies.
